Emails stuck in outbox

I check my outbox folder as well as deleted messages, but the emails I sent are not there either. I'm currently in a state where my emails are in the Outbox folder, but Outlook is frozen and not responding. I'm nervous to close Outlook because I feel like my message in the outbox will get deleted and I won't get to send them out again.
