The fog is a byproduct of the melting snow. As warm air has moved in, the snow is melting and releasing moisture into the atmosphere. That moisture is trapped due to the warm air aloft so then as temperatures at the surface cool that moisture is turned into fog. You can see the difference in the snowpack over the course of the last week.
"Terry was jumping out of his skin," said Carolyn Wettstone, Swails' wife and a journalist. "He had been tracking the weather and knew something was up. When it happened, he was all over it.
